buDa is an Indian
organization promoting experiential learning, preservation of traditional
knowledge systems, sustainable development of indigenous communities and the
environment.
Buda - Folklore is the outcome of
three decades of intense fieldwork and research related to folk culture. The
organization has emerged as a focal point for study and research of folk
heritage with a vast database on various tribes and indigenous communities of
uttara kannda region in Karnataka.
buDa folklore is a part of Janapada Vishva Prathishtana
an NGO based in Honnavar, in Uttar Kannada, region for folklore
research and documentation.

Well-known folklore
scholars in Karnataka, with 45 years of experience working with various aspects
of folklore. They have been documenting folk culture and heritage of
uttara kannada region for the last 45 years. They are among the first to
start a folklore publication called “Janapada Prakashana”
to disseminate their field findings to a larger interested audience. They have
dedicated their entire life to spread folklore in various ways. Together they
have authored over 80 books in Kannada on topics like folk games, arts, songs,
dance, foods, drinks, rituals, ceremonies, festivals, gods, healing plants,
costumes, ornaments etc.
They are the Founder of Janapada Vishva Prathishtana
a non-profit organization that documents, highlights and works towards
preserving folk culture and heritage. Started with an aim to understand and
record native knowledge, oral tradition and folk culture. in and around Uttara
kannada district, the organization has put the spotlight on little-known
folk talent and folk culture.
