COMMUNITY INICIATIVES -Learning Center

Learning Center

We  created a space for learning, centered around the tribal culture and folklore of Uttara Kannada.
The learning center would evolve as a space for the following:
  •      To provide a forum to create awareness about our cultural roots and the richness in rural and tribal communities.
  •      To facilitate research and documentation of the cultural heritage and folklore of Uttara Kannada
  •      Preserves the rich tribal heritage in terms of culture, crafts and folklore

Community learning space

That would act both as culture center for the community as well as a place for visitors to go and come away with a better understanding of the community and the local culture. It will offer a comprehensive service and a holistic experience
We are facilitating the creation of sustainable livelihood opportunities by providing skill training and technical know-how, to combine the cultural, craft and ecological resources of the region, in a responsible and ethical manner.
We are facilitating the revitalization process by helping build capacity as well as helping create an entrepreneurial community.
We are ensuring that the new community led and controlled initiatives create opportunities that will empower women and youth
The activities of the facilitation center would include a small media center for the use by the community, micro credit bank, dispensary for herbal medicines, artisan store for selling products made by the local artisans, workshop space etc.

 Children Learning Space

Never let school interfere with your education -Mark Twain

We are developing learning space for rural tribal children and those who are interested in self sustaining life, something which is unique in its targets combined with enabling the communities to continue their knowledge, wisdom and tradition.

Approach:
  •       The aim of the programme is to equip rural children with the right balance of literacy and education, so that in the long run each child voluntarily chooses to stay in the village and work for its development instead of looking to move out.
  •      It encourages hands-on or learning-by-doing process of gaining knowledge and skills, rather than imparting it through formal classroom teachings.
  •       Identifying and using the skills,  local knowledge system and self sustainable life available among tribal people in the community itself
