  •  Eco and cultural tourism
Building on a relationship of over 45 years with the local communities
Folklore Foundation is examining ways of providing alternatives for the communities by supporting and promoting small-scale low impact  cultural study tourism to the area.

There is a need to make ecotourism a grass root, community based movement through awareness, education and training of the local community as guides and interpreters
Our low impact tourism program will directly not only benefit the community but will also assist us in funding studies to help the community’s better plan their future.

We hope that more people and institutions will place importance in the care
and preservation of our cultural heritage and projects such as this will impact in the near future on our understanding and knowledge of our past

Working with the community on creating greater awareness, pride, a sense of identity linked to their cultural heritage and indigenous traditions, resulting in a strong sense of participation and ownership in the development process of the region.

Creating unique learning /educational experiences that will result in a transformation in attitudes on the part of both indirect beneficiaries (tourists) as well as direct beneficiaries (local host communities).

  • Medicinal plants Garden
The folklore center has a small folk medicinal garden that are a testimony to the enormous wealth of medicinal herbs and plants that are used for their medicinal value by various indigenous communities.

  • Learning Center

That would act both as culture center for the community as well as a place for visitors to go and come away with a better understanding of the community and the local culture. We hope to create these center within a context of a variety of vernacular architectural styles and characteristic of various tribes and communities of Uttara Kannada. Each different centre can be an active community workplace, artisan center, museum and store in itself .Once all documentation is done, buDa Folklore will be able to share the photographic, film and documental archives held the guest house directly to the communities through the cultural centers and local schools.

  • Facilitation Center:

We are facilitating the creation of sustainable livelihood opportunities by providing skill training and technical know-how, to combine the cultural, craft and ecological resources of the region, in a responsible and ethical manner.
We are facilitating the revitalization process by helping build capacity as well as helping create an entrepreneurial community.
We are ensuring that the new community led and controlled initiatives create opportunities that will empower women and youth
The activities of the facilitation center would include a small media center for the use by the community, micro credit bank, dispensary for herbal medicines, artisan store for selling products made by the local artisans, workshop space etc.

  • Artisans well fare Programme:
Artisans Corpus Fund.: The funds from this corpus are used towards efforts to keep the local folk traditions and art alive, honoring at least two local artisan every year, support the local tribes/artisans in the event of any personal calamity like medical expenses. We plan to organize an annual folklore Jatre (Habba) at Honnavr starting next year. The Jatre will be a meeting point for all tribes in this region and will serve as a platform to promote their art and craft. We look to use the use the funds from the corpus towards this event as well.
Recognizing  and honoring artisans, folk healers ,oral traditional singers.Honored more than 40 folk artists and 25 folk scholars  the organization has put the spotlight on little-known folk talent.

  • Research and Documentation:

Buda documents, highlights and works towards preserving folk culture and heritage. Started with an aim to understand and record native knowledge, oral tradition and folk culture in and around Uttara Kannada district. The organization has established folklore research as a predominant area of study and research.

45years of fieldwork and research work in various aspects of folk and tribal culture.the organization has emerged as a focal point for study and research of folk heritage in Karnataka

There is immense scope to use this knowledge to build and explore new avenues, revisit documented knowledge at field level, understand prevailing stresses or simply showcase the volume of work into modules that are eye-catching.

It needs to be captured from the field, by research. Direct research by visits to these people and learning from all they have to teach us and indirect research by looking for documentation and photographs of already lost knowledge and culture
